How to Properly Oil Your Byrna Launcher
Most Byrna launchers don’t shoot roughly because of heavy use, it's because of lack of maintenance. And the biggest mistake? Not oiling it… or oiling it the wrong way.
If your Byrna launcher has ever felt stiff, weak, or not as smooth as it used to be, there’s a good chance it just needs a simple oil routine. The good news is, it only takes a couple of minutes and can seriously extend the life of your launcher.
Why Oiling Your Byrna Matters
Think of oil like insurance for your Byrna.
Inside your launcher are small seals that hold air pressure. Over time, those seals can dry out. When that happens, you may notice:
- Loss of power
- Inconsistent shots
- A rough or stiff trigger feel
- Air leaks
A quick oiling keeps those seals soft and working properly, so your launcher performs the way it should, every time you need it.
Step-by-Step: How to Oil Your Byrna Launcher
The process is simple, but doing it correctly makes all the difference.
1. Make Sure It’s Unloaded
Before anything else:
- Remove any CO₂ cartridge
- Remove all projectiles
Safety always comes first. Double-check before moving on.
2. Test the Oiler
Take the Byrna oil from your oil kit and squeeze:
- One drop onto a paper towel to test how hard you need to squeeze
3. Insert the Guide & Oiler
- Insert the oiler guide into the chamber
- Make sure the oiler is flush against the guide when you insert the needle
4. Add Oil
- Apply about 5 squeezes of oil
- Remove the oiler and guide, and then 1-2 drops onto the internal cartridge seal
That’s it. More oil does not mean better performance. In fact, using too much can cause buildup and lead to problems over time.
5. Insert the CO₂ Cartridge & Dry Fire
Place the cartridge into your launcher just like you normally would.
Fire the launcher two or three times without any projectiles.
This step spreads the oil throughout the internal system, reaching the seals that need it most.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
A lot of people get this wrong, so here’s what to watch out for:
- Using too much oil – This can clog internal parts
- Skipping oiling completely – Leads to dried seals and poor performance
- Trying to disassemble the launcher – Not needed for basic maintenance
Keep it simple. A few drops. A few dry fires. Done.
How Often Should You Oil Your Byrna?
A good rule of thumb:
- Every 10th time you install a new CO₂ cartridge
- Or after extended storage
If it’s been sitting for a while, oil it before using it again.
Keep It Ready When It Counts
Your Byrna launcher is a tool you rely on for protection. The last thing you want is for it to underperform because of something as small as dry seals.
The maintenance is easy. Take care of your gear, and it’ll take care of you.
